Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) is the flagship programme of the Ministry of Education, Government of India. The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi, serves as the National Coordinating Institute for UBA. It is a new initiative by the Ministry of Human Resources Department, the Government of India. The Tamilnadu Agricultural University, Coimbatore, acts as one of the Regional Coordinating Institute for central Tamilnadu. The mission of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is to enable higher educational institutions to work with the people of rural India through identifying development challenges and evolving appropriate solutions for accelerating sustainable growth. Poompuhar College which has been continuously involved in various activities for community welfare has joined hands with UBA since August, 2020. Under Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Scheme, Poompuhar College has adopted five villages namely Keelaperumpallam, Neithavasal, Thalachangadu, Pazhayagaram and Melavanagiri in the Mayiladuthurai district.
Unnat Bharat Abhiyan is inspired by the vision of transformational change in rural development processes by leveraging knowledge institutions to help build the architecture of an Inclusive India and to have a paradigm shift in academic and research programs of the country.
